Right Gear for the Job

It's getting blustery, and cold and tonight when I first braced myself against the wind entering the barnyard, I thought, " Here we go."
Wouldn't it be nice to be really outfitted properly for working outside? My feet were pretty warm in my pink Smartwool socks and my purple Muckboots. I donned the customary flame orange knit hat for hunting season, but the wind just whipped through my Levi's and my Purple fleece Hoodie needs to be retired until Spring I'm afraid.
I did a search on Google for women's work pants. I was thinking some bib overalls like Carhartts would be perfect. I could layer my long johns' underneath, and take off my coat during the actual milking. I found a good site.

Got any recommendations? Any favorites that make your life that much sweeter while your sweating it out against the odds? I'd love some ideas.

  3. While waiting for our first calving in mid-January, I fell in love with my husband's wool L.L. Bean overalls.

I would pull them on over my jeans, turtleneck and hooded sweatshirt and wear them from the time I left the house in the morning until after chores and my morning school bus run. I could wear my coat over everything until things warmed up midday. After dinner, I could sit on a bale of straw in Elsie's stall and hang out as long as I wanted without getting cold, even in those bitter cold temps we had last January!

  5. I forgot about Gemplers! Yes, wool overalls! I adore wool. Tricia, you have got to get the purple ones. Why settle for boring old black!
Farmers deserve a little fashion too. You wouldn't want to see the fashion statement I made last year AND I was still cold! I'm upgrading this year.

  6. I love my women's Carharrts and want to get another pair. I wear silk long johns from Cabelas underneath them, and my favorite shirts are either flannel or a knit Henley with a good knit sweater over all. My feet absolutely love good wool socks and my Muck Boots from the Muck Boot Outlet. One thing I've discovered from living in the cold North is that you really need to spend money on good clothing or else you are just wasting money.

  7. Ooooh, silk long johns! I agree about the quality of the clothing, hopefully I can get several winters out of them as well. Thanks, Guys!
