Any thoughts or Inspirations?

Regarding weightloss or lack there of! I have been stuck at the same weight since Christmas BUT I've dropped another pant size and have gotten into much better shape. I know I shouldn't obsess over the number on the scale but I'd like to see that change with all the work I've put in!
This week I haven't exercised as much, I think the stress of last week finally caught up to me. I've had a stiff neck and then my back really was messed up, probably no doubt from the whole cow episode.
I hesitate to do anything other than ride it out. Dante and the kids get WAY too much enjoyment out of recalling the last time I went to the doctor for my back. Dante and I had been rolling round bales of hay onto a pickup every 2 days while I was pregnant, because at the time our tractor couldn't move them, but the cows still needed to be fed. ( No wonder my back was messed up! )
So I went to our family doctor, thinking he'd refer me to a chiropractor. Nope---right there with all the kids watching in horror and amusement---he folded me up like a pretzel and then pounced on me four or five times. It probably looked like some fake wrestling move. I'm glad I was able to provide a quality lasting memory for the kids. They'll probably NEVER seek medical attention for an ailing back in their lifetime!
Anyway, I'm looking for some ideas to ramp up the weightloss again. I think I probably need to switch it up. I usually eat similar foods, and have been pretty much running 3-5 times a week.
So I switched to yogurt for breakfast ( I usually don't eat breakfast ) and I think I'll start lifting weights. I wanted to wait until I reached my goal before doing strength training, ( I lift PLENTY of weight on a daily basis on the farm--but my body is SO used to it ) but I think I'll try it and see what happens. Anything thats working for you?

  1. From the sounds of it, Jessika, you are building muscle, which weighs more. And eating breakfast is a VERY good idea. I am not a breakfast eater, either, and when a friend told me to eat breakfast in order to lose more weight, I thought she was crazy! But, it worked. I know it's hard not to focus on the number, but it will drop as you continue taking care of yourself. You are an inspiration - keep it up!

  2. It is so true - you have got to eat breakfast especially with all the manual labor you do around the farm. Yogurt is a great thing to have and sprinkle a little wheat germ or flax seed on top for an extra kick. Put it into an individual serving container in your fridge so all you have to do is pull it out and eat it - you can do that in just a couple of minutes and it gets your metabolism going for the day. You will find however that by mid morning you will be hungry and you will think you are eating more but have a good high protein snack such as cheese stick or a half a baby bagel with peanut butter and you will keep the metabolism going so you will burn more throughout your day.

Lifting weights is also a great way to boost the weight loss and continue to tone - you do lots of practical strength training but actually isolating a muscle group and working them hard is what you need.
Hope this helps - can't wait to see you in the Summer - you are going to look great.

  4. once our cow is fresh tabitha is thinking of taking the milk fast. normally i don't go for those kind of things but as we know raw milk is excellent stuff. some claims about the fast seem compelling, if a person can believe those claims. i think a short fast in attempt to reset the metabolism seems more reasonable than many diets.

    good luck

  5. Strength training and breakfast are both very good ideas. Also, you really need to be sure that you are eating enough. I remember when I was on Weight Watchers (good program, btw, but not for me 'cause I get freaked out by counting everything but that's my own hang-up) time and again I saw women who were having great success and then stalled and when they checked, they were really eating too little and needed to up their daily intake a bit. The human body is amazing and adaptive and will try to hang on to that fat as hard as you try to get rid of it! So even though it may seem counter-intuitive, you may need to eat just a bit more and maybe that breakfast will do the trick.

You've inspired me to get ready to start running again. Starting slowly and trying not to make my plantar fascitis flare up again...
